OUR STORY

In 1988-89 Galen and Mary Nell Ellingsen purchased a 40 acre piece of property outside of South Bend Wa. because Galen saw the piece advertised in the real estate listings and recalled the site in his childhood as a Boyscout camp. The Ellingsen's attraction to the spot was the tremendous serenity and peace among nature. For a number of years the Ellingsens believed that God had a special use for the property as a place His work could flourish reaching one person at a time for Christ. Much time was spent in soul searching and prayer asking the Lord to use the property for His intended purpose.

Mary Nell's father, Bill Howell, placed within each one of his daughters, Livvie, Mary Nell, and Ellen, the idea that we are on this Earth to serve not be served. Also his favorite scripture, "Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me." Matt. 25:40, was embedded deep within their minds. Bill had a dream of doing a powerful work for the Lord on a 200 acre lot of land for youth but he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease in 1997 and died in 2004.

In the fall of 2000 Livvie Gates, Mary Nell's sister, asked her to assist in home schooling her twin daughters Jeaneen and Jeanelle while she went back to school. During that school year Jeaneen and Jeanelle's enthusiasm and visionary insight to have a Christian education center on the property watered a seed for the idea. After all, the small center had begun with the three of them.

Mary Nell listened to a preacher in the summer of 1998 and the Holy Spirit impressed deeply upon her mind one scripture that he shared, "Faithful is He who has called you who also will do it." (Thess. 5:24). Then she knew it was not up to her to perform this massive task of beginning a school now known as Mission Creek, but God's as she surrendered her will. This is the promise that has sustained all of the amazing miracles God has wrought since that time.

The following year, on July 15, 2001 Mission Creek Outreach Services (MCOS) formally became a Washington State Non-Profit Corporation and in March, 2003 became a 501(c)3 Federal Non-Profit Corporation.  In April of 2015 Mission Creek became the only approved, private Christian school in all of Pacific County.  Mission Creek Christian School serves from 8-15 students, grades 6-12.
